Managing Devices in the Fixed License Pool

The Fixed License Pool enables the allocation of license from a centralized pool to managed SBC devices. Tenant licenses can be allocated according to the total licenses in the pool for each specific feature and allocated per device according to the system capacity of the device. Operators initially allocate licenses between tenants and devices according to anticipated call traffic. They can later reallocate licenses in the Live Platform Web according to the actual call traffic based on the updates reported from the managed devices. For example, a tenant is allocated 200 SBC Session licenses and the customer has deployed two Mediant 800B E-SBC devices (SBC-A and SBC-B). Each device is allocated 100 sessions out of the pool. In case SBC-B handles 100 sessions and requires additional SBC sessions, then new calls cannot be established until the total number of SBC sessions on the device drops below 100 active sessions, upon which time new calls will be allowed. The service admin can change the sessions allocations per device, as long as total allocation is not over the pool sessions number.

Fixed license eligibility requires you to place an initial minimum order of 250 fixed license SBC sessions.
The Transcoding session license is applicable only to the Mediant Virtual Edition and Mediant 9000.

This feature allows updating a device's license using the process shown here:

Live Platform operator updates SBC license in Live Platform License Pool
Live Platform notifies SBC that the License Pool has been updated
SBC requests updated license from Live Platform
Live Platform sends the updated license to SBC
SBC polls Live Platform for license updates:
every 12 hours
when the SBC is reset
(HA) when switchover and synchronization by the new active device are performed
Live Platform sends the license update to the SBC (if an update is discovered)

An SBC's license is valid for seven days but this is reset each time a successful connection is established between it and the Live Platform License Pool. If the SBC cannot connect to the License Pool for seven days, its license expires and resets with its initial 'local' license. This feature prevents misuse of issued licenses.

The Fixed License Pool page in the Live Platform allows you to:

Centrally distribute session licenses to multiple devices according to capacity requirements
Manage the licenses of multiple devices without changing their local License Key.
Add/remove licenses to/from devices according to site requirements, independently of AudioCodes.
Apply different settings to each device without requiring a new License Key file per device from AudioCodes each time.
Manage licenses for multiple enterprise customers [ITSPs].

The Fixed License Pool supports the following license types:

SBC sessions (includes both media and signaling)
SBC Registrations (also referred to as Far-End Users)
SBC Signaling sessions (includes only signaling)
Transcoding sessions

The customer purchases a bulk number of licenses of these types and obtains a License Key to install on OVOC. The customer can then:

allocate licenses to any SBC managed by the OVOC
move licenses from any SBC back to the License Pool
move licenses from one SBC to another
purchase additional licenses for the pool at any time

When license capacity is fully utilized, the SBC rejects calls. If the SBC also has a 'local' license, the two are cumulated to constitute a single license.

Excess capacity: When additional capacity for the pool is required, customers you can manually purchase new licenses according to their anticipated calling requirements. If the device exceeds its OVOC Live Platform license limit, then the the SBCSBC does not enable new calls to be established. If the device is allocated a specific license feature that exceeds the maximum sessions that the device can support, the device sets the number of sessions to its maximum supported capacity.
Local license key: The Fixed License only provides SBC capacity licenses; therefore, your device must still be installed with a local License Key to enable other ordered license-based features (e.g., Test Calls) and capacity. When using Fixed pool licenses, Any local sessions licenses on the device are added on top of the allocated sessions taken from the pool.
HA Systems: For HA systems, the Live Platform Fixed License pool automatically allocates an equal number of SBC licenses to the active and redundant devices.
Restore to factory defaults: If the device is restored to factory defaults, the SBC licenses allocated by the Live Platform Fixed License pool are removed and only the SBC licenses from the locally installed License Key are applied instead.
To update a license using the Fixed License Pool:
1. Open the Fixed License Pool page (Topology> Devices > Fixed License Pool).
